LOL SURPRISE DOLL COOKIES
ROYAL ICING EYES
I made eyes as royal Icing transfers. RIT can be prepared ahead of time. Place a piece of wax paper or a food grade acetate sheet over a template. Then pipe directly onto the wax paper with royal icing. Let the icing dry completely before removing the backing material. If using acetate sheets, drying time can be longer.
To make eyes I used royal icing about 25-30 second consistency. If icing has a small peak use a sewing machine motion (up and down) with a needle tool to flatten the peak.
Start piping eye with white royal icing and then pipe the iris, pupil and white reflections. Tiny reflection dots can be easily applied onto the black icing with a needle tool.
To make irises I used royal blue, teal and brown royal icing.
SKIN TONE ROYAL ICING
In today’s LOL Surprise Dolls tutorial I’m using light/fair and dark skin tone royal icing.
Fair Skin (Unicorn Doll) : to white royal icing add little bit of ivory food coloring and a minuscule amount of pink (tip of a toothpick).
Dark Skin ( Queen Bee, Diva, Mermaid) : to white royal icing add ivory, brown and a minuscule amount of orange can be added to achieve the correct shade.
Depending on a project you can also tone skin royal icing with pink, orange and black.
UNICORN DOLL
ROYAL ICING TRANSFERS
I made ears, bangs and small rosettes royal icing transfers.
- EARS
- Use white 20 second consistency royal icing to pipe the ears. Let the sections crust before piping section next to it. This step allows you to create dimension in the design.
- BANGS
- Use teal, pink and purple 15 second consistency royal icing to pipe the bangs.
- ROSETTES
- To make small roses like these use stiff royal icing and a Star Piping Tip #14. Pipe rosettes onto a wax paper and let dry.
FLOOD THE UNICORN DOLL COOKIES
Trace the outlines on the cookie using a paper template and an edible marker.
Start by flooding ponytails in sections. Use pink, teal and white 20 second consistency royal icing. Let sections crust. Then pipe neighboring sections. Use a needle tool to shape the icing while wet.
Let ponytails crust and then continue flooding hair section across, alternating colors of icing as illustrated. Let crust well.
Attach eyes with a little bit of royal icing. Then with a fair skin tone 15 second consistency royal icing flood the face. Pipe the horn with ivory piping consistency royal icing. Let icing dry.
DETAILS UNICORN DOLL
Attach head band ears and then outline the ears and pipe the head band with white piping consistency royal icing. Then immediately dust icing with white sanding sugar. Attach the bangs.
After with a pink edible petal dust apply blush to the cheeks. Use a dry food only paint brush to spread the dust.
Continue with a fair skin tone royal icing and pipe the ears. And attach pink, purple and green rosettes onto the head band.
Pipe eyelashes and outlines with a black piping consistency royal icing.
Paint the horn with an edible gold luster dust (mix dry edible gold luster dust with a little bit of lemon extract to make a paste).
Pipe the mouth with pink 25 second consistency royal icing. Draw the nose with a fine tip black edible marker.
DIVA DOLL
FLOODING
Flood the bow loops with pink 15 second consistency royal icing. Dust immediately with pink sanding sugar. Let crust. Then add the bow knot in the center and dust with pink sanding sugar as well.
Attach eyes and flood the face with dark skin tone 15 second consistency royal icing. Let crust for an hour or so. Then pipe white hair with white 15 second consistency royal icing. Immediately dust it with an edible jewel dust/glitter. Repeat on the other side. And let dry.
DIVA DOLL DETAILS
Use white 15 second consistency royal icing to make the white hair bangs royal icing transfer. Dust the white icing with edible jewel dust and let dry completely.
Once bangs are dry, peel off the acetate sheet and glue the bangs onto the cookie with a little bit of royal icing.
Finish Diva Doll with black outlines, eyeliner, eyelashes, pink mouth, add little bit of red petal dust blush onto the cheeks. And don’t forget to pipe a small star on a cheek and make a nose with a fine tip black edible maker.
LOL QUEEN BEE DOLL
GOLD SANDING SUGAR
Trace the outline onto the cookie using a template and edible marker. Attach eyes. Flood hair in sections using mustard colored 15 second royal icing. First, flood the hair buns. Then dust the icing with a gold sanding sugar. Let it crust and continue icing hair and dusting the icing with gold sanding sugar. Let crust.
Flood the face with dark skin tone 15 second consistency royal icing. Let crust and then add the ears. Let the icing dry.
Pipe the bangs with mustard 15 second consistency royal icing and then immediately dust it with gold sanding sugar.
QUEEN BEE DOLL DETAILS
With a black piping consistency royal icing pipe the eyelashes, eyebrows and outlines. With a dry food only paint brush and a red edible petal dust apply blush to the cheeks. Pipe the mouth with red 25 second consistency royal icing. Then draw details on dry icing with a fine tip black edible marker
LOL MERMAID DOLL
BLUE HAIR
Trace outlines on the cookie using a template and edible marker.
In this tutorial I show how to flood the hair in sections with blue 20 second consistency royal icing. However, in all honestly you can skip the sectional flooding of the hair and flood the hair all at once. Let the hair crust.
Attach eyes and then flood the face with a dark skin tone 15 second consistency royal icing, and let it crust. Then add the ears. Let the icing dry.
Flood the other half of the hair with blue 20 second consistency royal icing and dust the icing with blue sanding sugar.

I live your tutorials!!! Thank you so much for sharing your talent with us. My question is, do you use the template to cut out the cookie or are there cutters? If here are, where can I purchase them?
Hi Cheryl,
I used templates to hand cut the cookies as well as trace the outlines on the cookies to decorate.
Hope that helps. Thank you so much.
You Haniela are so amazing and incredibly talented. You make it look so easy that anyone can do it. Unfortunately it takes much practice. But your videos give us all the inspiration to take the first steps. Thank you so very much.
Right now I need help with finding the right consistency of the royal icing. Sometimes I’m spot on and other times it like go back to the drawing board. I find that I personally could use a tutorial on this subject.
Thank you for all your inspiration, my grandkids love the cookies!
Thank you Eliza, I agree consistency is the key. I have shared a detail tutorial on consistency. You can look up royal icing consistency in blog search to check it out. Happy HOlidays.
Hey. Am i skipping a step? Is the template here?
Templates are listed under tools, please look at the bottom of the post where I list recipes and tools used, first thing under tool is template, you have to click on it and pdf file should open. Let me know if you have a hard time to getting to the file.
I try to list everything in the bottom so you don’t need to read every single word in such a long post. Thank you.
Where can I find the other templates?
I haven’t published them yet.:-)
Hi Hani,
Thank you for another amazing video! Do you have the templates for the other two dolls? I’m decorating LOL dolls in April and would love to use your templates.
Thank you for helping an amateur!
I have the templates but haven’t had a chance to upload them yet. Thank you.
These are amazing. I was wondering, do you cut the cookie shape using a knife with the template as a guide?
I actually hand cut these using the template and you can use a sharp knife but I prefer either exacto knife or pen blade-if you look in the shop page they are listed there. Thank you.
Would love to see you do more of these!!!
Thank you, maybe soon.
Congratulations. Just saaw these cookies on youtube and was mesmerized by all fine details you include on LOL cookie version. You are an amazing artist.
