Sour Cream Tartar Sauce
For as long as I remember my mom always made homemade Sour Cream Tartar Sauce. It is really quick to prepare, delicious to eat, and can be paired with a number of savory dishes for you to enjoy. I can’t recall the last time I had a store-bought tartar sauce.

- Dill Pickle

- Mustard
- Worcestershire sauce
- Honey or Sugar
- Salt, Ground Pepper
- Lemon juice (optional)

DILL PICKLE AND ONION
When I was little I used to help my mom with the making of tartar sauce. It’s super easy. Let’s do it.
Just like years ago, I follow the same steps to make it now. 1st I finely grate a dill pickle and pickled carrot (optional). When I make homemade dill pickles, with pickles I also pickle a few sliced carrots. They are delicious to munch on and I also use them in my tartar sauce, too. If you don’t have pickled carrots no worries, skip it. It’s fine. I mainly like it for the color it lends to the sauce.
With grated dill, I also add a little bit of finely chopped onion. Red, yellow onion works well. Or you can also use green onion or shallots. As a matter of fact today I used shallots. Be sure to only add a small amount of finely dices onion otherwise onion tends to overpower tartar sauce.

HOMEMADE SOUR CREAM TARTAR SAUCE
In a bowl combine all the ingredients. Stir well. Taste and season with salt and pepper according to your specific taste. If you prefer it a little more acidic stir in 1tsp lemon juice or dill pickle brine juice. Chill for 10 minutes.

SUCCESS TIPS, SUBSTITUTIONS, SERVING SUGGESTIONS
- Can I use Greek Yogurt in instead of Sour Cream? Absolutely, I often use Greek Yogurt, or Skyr. Sometimes I add a little more honey or sugar to balance the flavors.
- If the yogurt/skyr/sour cream is too runny, let it drain over a fine mesh sieve for 30 minutes.
- I don’t like honey, can I use other sweetener? Of course, you can use sugar, or other sweeteners. Be sure to use a just a tiny bit.
- What herbs can I add? Dill, chives, parsley or thyme work really nice.
- What do you serve with Sour Cream Tartar Sauce? I love it as a dip with Roasted Potatoes, Fried Breaded Cheese, Baked Breaded Zucchini, Fish or Beef Brisket.
- How long does homemade Tartar Sauce Last? I store sour cream tartar sauce in the fridge, for up to 2-3 days,

me and mayo are a no go, so I found this recipe and it is highly addictive! vlasic tiny pickles do the same magic as would my Babi’s homemade pickles, and all I did extra was a little bit of pickle juice (maybe 1/2 teaspoon). YUM! I can imagine oven roasted carrots with potatoes and this with it, what a simple and tasty combo.
Hi!
Thank you so much for stopping by and for trying this recipe. I love the addition of pickle juice.
It’s so good with roasted veggies, you’ll love it. Hani
