HOW TO DECORATE SIMPLE WITCH BOOTS COOKIES
I found a great looking Wilton Witch Boot Cutter and I used it along with my delicious Cut-Out Sugar Cookie Recipe to make the cookies. And to decorate I used my Fresh Lemon Royal Icing. You can also try my Aquafaba Vegan Royal Icing. It’s super tasty and very easy to prepare.
HOW TO CUT A DISPOSABLE PIPING BAGS
When I made this Halloween cookie decorating tutorial in 2014 I used sandwich bags to decorate. However I since switched to disposable piping bags.
I often get asked how I cut the disposable piping bags. First, find a seam on the piping bag. Flatten it in the middle. And then with sharp scissors cut the tip straight across. It is better to make the opening smaller and then if needed make it bigger. Once it’s too big you can’t make it smaller.

PURPLE WITCH BOOTS COOKIES
ROYAL ICING COLORS AND CONSISTENCIES :
- Purple, Bright Green – 15 second consistency, to make green I used Americolor Electric Green (or use Yellow and add Leaf Green until you reach the desired color.) To make purple I like to use Sky Blue and Electric Pink Gel Colors.
- Orange, Bright Green – 20 second consistency
- Black – 20 to 25 second consistency
DECORATING STEPS :
Start by outlining and flooding very top section of the boot cookie with purple icing (15sec). Use a needle tool to shape the icing. Then outline and flood the bottom part leaving about 1 inch gap between top and bottom section. Let crust well, 1-2 hours.
Now with bright green icing (15sec) flood the gap section. Don’t forget to use a needle tool to distribute and shape the icing while wet. And also at this time flood the heel of the boot with black icing (20sec). And again make sure to use a needle tool to shape the black icing. Let crust well.
With orange icing (20sec) outline and flood the buckle. Shape icing with a needle tool. Then while icing is wet dust it with sanding sugar. I used white sugar but I think orange sanding sugar would look better. Or use seasonal Halloween nonpareils. Those would be really cool.
Lastly finish witch boot cookies with green icing (20sec) and pipe various dot sizes on the purple boot.
And then with black icing (25sec) pipe straight lines on the heel.
GREEN WITCH BOOTS COOKIES
ROYAL ICING COLORS AND CONSISTENCIES :
- Bright Green, Orange – 15 second consistency
- White, Purple – 20 second consistency
- Black – 25 second consistency
DECORATING STEPS :
Outline and flood front with orange icing (15 sec). Let crust.
Then outline and flood remaining cookie except the heel with bright green icing (15sec). Let crust well.
Now you can flood the heel with white icing (20sec). Use a needle tool to shape the icing.
With black icing (25sec) pipe a scalloped edge border and after pipe large dots with purple icing (20sec) on the orange section. If dots have points use a needle tool to flatten them. Use a sewing needle up and down motion to smooth the pointy sections. Let icing dry.
With a black marker draw stripes on a white heel.
