Dollar store once again proved itself to be useful. I bought the skull ice cube mold there thinking I’ll use it for something. I’m sure you buy things for that purpose all the time, right?
Well anyway, it wasn’t until I skyped with Marlyn from Montreal Confections and we were talking about The Day of the Dead and I showed Marlyn the mold and she is like ” why don’t you make cookies” and I’m like “well the mold is pretty stiff since it is actually made for ice cubes. Not sure if I can get the cookie dough out.”
I didn’t dismiss the idea completely, it was fermenting.
Week after I started testing it out, first I put the dough into the mold without spraying it with the non stick spray. The dough stuck, even after freezing, sculls were stuck. So I tried lining it with the plastic wrap. That didn’t work the skull details didn’t get imprinted onto the cookie
Then I tried the Smart Balance Butter Flavor Spray and they started to pop out of the mold. Yay.
Then I baked them off and here there are. Rainbow Sugar Cookie Sculls.
Hope you like them. They taste pretty yummy too. I used my Sugar Cookie Dough recipe, minus the baking powder. I have tried them with Linzer Cookie Dough and it worked as well, so if your Sugar Cookie Dough uses powdered sugar you should be good to go.
To make 3D Sugar Cookie Skulls you need
Sugar Cookie Dough(recipe and video ), don’t use baking powder. Linzer cookie dough (recipe) works great also Scull Mold – I got mine at a Dollar Store, you can also purchase one here if you don’t have a Dollar Store around. Smart Balance Butter Spray Food Colorings- I used Americolors, use gel based colors if possible, they will produce vibrant color results. USA baking pans – I love using these, the results are great
