It is a different look, don’t you think? Where did all the green go? Seems like yesterday. Our garden is hibernating.
We are already preparing for upcoming new season. There is a talk of what to plant and what to skip this year, what new to try and what new tomatoes are on the market and what was good last year and what didn’t do so well. How many broccoli plants to put it and how many tomato plants should we plant. Where too look for our favorite frying peppers “Aruba”, what kind of spring onions to plant…
Summer 2012
When I said that the garden was hibernating, I meant : it is, partly. We planted garlic in the Fall 2012, covered it with a thick layer of leaves for insulation to prevent it from freezing in winter months. We should have first garlic ready to harvest in the Spring 2013. As we haven’t grown our own garlic before we both are really excited about it. I can’t wait to make my own braided garlic. It will be so beautiful.
For those who are curious, we bought locally grown garlic at a local farm, separating each clove and planting it into the ground, in October. There are about 100 of them in the ground. If all goes well, you’ll be seeing some garlic field in the Spring. I’ll make my mom’s famous garlic soup with little hand-thrown flour dumplings.

It has grown so much, we harvested lots of broccoli, scallions are delicious this year, peas had reached over 9 ft(we took them out as their producing season ended in late June), some of the beans have overgrown the garden, cherry…

I was doing the dishes when through the kitchen window I spotted couple of big butterflies outside just on the porch. They were moving from one flower to another, collecting nectar. Good thing I have so many flowers out there, they stayed for quite a while. I found myself gazing at them, until suddenly with…
