My Watermelon Snowman Cookies have been invited to a grand Christmas Cookie Party. Callye (Sweet Sugarbelle) and Georganne (LiLaloa) put together festive Christmas in July inspired cookie collaboration with some of my favorite cookie pals.

Who can remember good old Flickr days? 10 years later, world seems so much bigger now. I remember times when Callye made houndstooth stencil by hand, cutting each piece by piece ( FYI – stencils were really sparse 10 years ago).

Or when I first saw Georganne’s cookies. I ran a US. only cookie decorating contest on the blog and she wanted to enter. But she was living in the South Korea at the time and her cookie wasn’t eligible to win. I let her enter anyway (the entry wasn’t voted on), her cookie was so pretty!

And with Marlyn of Montreal Confections we became besties. She encouraged me to start my you tube channel 6 years ago. It was scary and totally out of my comfort zone. I still cringe looking at my first videos. And I can’t thank you enough M for pushing me out of my comfort zone.

Well, needless to say, I’m glad we got together in this fun collab. It was about time! Thanks for inviting me to tag along. LET’S MAKE COOKIES!

CHRISTMAS IN JULY SNOWMAN COOKIES

Over the years I’ve made couple of fun summer inspired Christmas Cookies. In 2016 I made Christmas in July Flip Flop Cookies and I also made 3D Summer Inspired (beach, watermelon, ice cream) Christmas Tree Cookies.

Today, once again I’m going with a watermelon design, my summer favorite. I made Watermelon Snowman Cookies.

SNOWMAN COOKIE CUTTER

I used my easy and delicious Cut-Out Sugar Cookie Recipe and a large snowman cutter (5.5 inch) to make the cookies. And to decorate I used Royal Icing.

I used tipless piping bags and to tie the bags I like to use a tape sealer. See the red tap at the top of the piping bags.

ICE CREAM CONE

To make my watermelon snowman cookies even more summery I decided to make the snowman’s nose out of an ice cream cone. And I made ice cream cones as royal icing transfers.

COLORS AND CONSISTENCY :

  • Ivory – 20 second consistency, piping consistency
  • Deep Pink – 20 second consistency

DECORATING STEPS :

On a piece of parchment with ivory icing (20sec) pipe small cone shapes (tall triangles). Let them dry. If you want to keep things simple draw the grid on cones with brown edible marker. Or pipe the grid with ivory royal icing (piping consistency)

Then pipe a blob of pink icing (20sec) for the ice cream atop the cone. Use a tip of the needle tool and grab small drops of icing as you push it out of the piping bag. Make small drop of melting ice cream onto the cone. Sprinkle with rainbow nonpareils. Let dry. Then peel the parchment paper. Store royal icing transfers in an airtight container, until ready to use.

SNOWMAN COOKIES

Now we are ready to decorate these adorable Christmas in July Cookies!

COLORS AND CONSISTENCY :

  • Black – 15 second consistency – seeds, 20 second consistency – mouth, eyes
  • Dark Green (leaf green with a touch of moss green) -15 second consistency
  • Light Green, White, Dark Red, Light Red – 15 second consistency

DECORATING STEPS :

Draw outlines with an edible marker. Brush a thin layer of black royal icing onto the mouth section. Let dry. Then with light green pipe the mouth outline. Flood the top part of the hat with dark red royal icing.

Next, with dark green pipe the face outline. And then flood the head with light green. Immediately make lines across wet light green icing with dark green icing. Use a needle tool and ziczac motion to blend dark green lines into light green base. Let crust.

Outline the middle section with dark green icing and light green icing. Use a needle tool to slightly marble light green outline into dark green outline, again use a ziczac motion, going outwards. Let crust for 5 minutes.

Then flood the inside with white, light red and read. Marble icing while still wet. Pipe the seeds with black royal icing. Let crust.

Repeat on the bottom section. Attach ice cream cone cone with a dot of white royal icing. Pipe 2 dots on the bottom edge of the mouth with light pink royal icing, shape it into the tongue with a needle tool

SANTA HAT AND SNOWMAN FACE

COLOR AND CONSISTENCY :

  • White – 15 second consistency
  • Black – 20 second consistency

DECORATING STEPS :

Flood the bottom of the hat with white icing (15sec). Immediately dust it with white sanding sugar. Brush off any sugar with a dry food only paint brush. Pipe the eyes (20sec) and attach snowflake sprinkles with a dot of royal icing.

ICE CREAM CONE HAT

COLORS AND CONSISTENCY :

  • Ivory – 20 second consistency – flood the hat, piping consistency -pipe the ice cream cone grid
  • Pink – 20 to 25 second consistency

DECORATING STEPS :

Alternatively you can make an ice cream cone hat, instead of a Santa Hat. Flood the top of the hat with ivory royal icing (20sec). Let it crust. Then pipe the grid with ivory icing (piping consistency). Let crust. Flood the bottom of the hat with pink (20sec-25sec), pipe few drips on the snowman’s face. Attach ice cream cone nose, pipe the eyes with black, and attach snowflake sprinkles for buttons
