1st Birthdays are special, this cake was a little extra special for me. Remember the Circus Elephant Baby Shower Cake I made last year. Well this 1st Birthday Cake is for a little boy who was born just about 2 months after the baby shower. Keegan is ONE, hard to believe but very true. Time just flies. It truly does.
Cake Design
Inspiration for the cake came from the Party Invitation from the etsy shop PaperClutch
Friend sent me an invite and I built my cake design around it.

Boat topper is made from the cookie, I used the boat image to create a cookie template and then I baked some delicious sugar cookies on the stick and using royal icing I decorated them to match the invite.
Cake itself is a Classic Sponge Cake, recipe is from Cake Bible.(it is called this for a reason, I highly recommend) I used 12 inch cake pans. Little metal thing you see sticking out from the middle is a flower nail. I used buttered and floured flower nail, it is recommended to use for even distribution of heat so the cake bakes evenly, especially with large cake sizes this is very useful.
Cake is filled with jam and Vanilla Swiss Buttercrem and is frosted with buttercream as well. Decorations are made from either royal icing(royal icing transfers) or marshmallow fondant.
Rope is made using clay extruder, and then I twisted blue and white ropes together.
Yesterday I shared with you a little trick on how to apply royal icing transfers onto the cookie – Coral, Green and Ivory Birthday Cookies. Today I will show you a a new design : Round Monogrammed Cookies. I really like monograms but they are difficult to make when hand piped, well at least…
