Handyman Tool Cookies

I made Handyman Tool Cookies! With Father’s Day just around the corner I wanted to make something my day would love. Tools! It seems men in my life always need new tools. One hand saw simply won’t cut it. But who am I to judge? I own 1000 cutters. So to all of you who like to build, create and fix things here are decorated Tool Cookies!

HANDYMAN TOOL COOKIES

COOKIE CUTTERS

It’s really easy to make tools cookies with Tool Cookies Cutter set. I got a whole set from R&M International. And this set includes Drill, Hammer, Pliers, Wrench, Hand Saw and a Screwdriver.

To make measuring tape I used a square cutter, rectangle cutter to make a level and a small triangle to make the screws.

HAND SAW

Begin by tracing outlines with edible marker and a paper template, use brown edible marker. Then with 20 second consistency brown royal icing I flooded the handle. Let the handle crust. After continue with icing the blade with 15 second consistency medium gray royal icing. Let it crust well.

Finish hand saw cookie with piping details onto the handle and the blade, use piping consistency royal icing.

HAMMER

Flood the head with 15 second consistency medium gray royal icing. At the same time flood the handle with 15 second consistency yellow royal icing. Let both sections crust. And then flood the middle section with 15 second consistency black royal icing.

How do I make Black Royal Icing?

WRENCH

Handyman Wrench cookie.

Flood a whole wrench cookie with 15 second consistency medium gray royal icing. Immediately while icing is still fluid/wet pipe the oval shape with 15 second consistency dark gray royal icing. At the same time create shading with 15 second light gray ( although it looks like white, it is very light gray).

Let icing crust and then finish this design with a gray royal icing piping consistency.

DRILL

Decorating yellow and black drill sugar cookie.

It is best to decorate Drill Cookies in sections. Use a template and trace the outlines on the cookie with an edible marker.

Flood main sections with 15 second consistency yellow and black royal icing. Let sections that are sitting next to each other crust before flooding the section next to it.

For smaller sections use 20 second consistency black, yellow and gray royal icing. Let the icing dry and then add details with a piping consistency royal icing.

Finally, once icing dries use black edible marker and write Dewalt on the dry icing.

HEX NUT, SCREWS, NAILS

Hexagonal washer cookies.

I used a small hexagon cutter and a small round cutter to make the hole in the center. Flood the hex nut with 15 second consistency medium gray. Let crust. And pipe details with piping consistency gray royal icing.

Cut out triangles from the cookie dough. Screw cookie design is iced in 3 steps.

First, ice the head with a 20 second consistency medium gray royal icing. Let it crust and then make the thread, let it crust again and finish by piping lines with piping consistency to create a thread design.

I piped nails onto small rectangular cookies.

Decorate nail cookies in 2 steps. Begin with icing the head, using medium gray 20 second consistency royal icing. Let it crust and then finish the nail. Use a needle tool to accentuate the point.

MEASURING TAPE

To make measuring tape cookie I used a square cookie cutter. And again I utilized a paper template and traced outline on a cookie with an edible marker.

Use 15 second consistency medium gray royal icing to icing the main gray area. Let it crust and then pipe 2 tone circle Use 15 second black and yellow royal icing.

With yellow 20 second royal icing pipe the oval shape onto the black middle section, the lock and measuring tape on the side. Let the icing crust for couple of hours.

Then using piping consistency and pipe details. Let the icing dry completely before writing on it with black edible marker.

LEVEL

Yellow level cookies.

I used a small rectangular cutter to make the level shape. With a template trace the outlines on the cookies.

Flood the rectangular sections with 20 second white royal icing and let crust. Then continue with 15 second consistency yellow royal icing and flood the whole cookie. Let crust well.

Use black royal icing piping consistency and make the outlines around white sections. Let dry completely. Use edible marker to finish the level design. Start with yellow edible marker and then add details with a fine tip black edible marker.

SCREWDRIVER

Ice bottom of the handle with yellow 15 second consistency, let crust. Decorate blade and the tip with medium gray 15 second consistency. Create shading with light gray or white royal icing white.

Next flood the middle section with yellow icing. Then pipe details with black piping consistency royal icing. Let dry.

PLIERS

Pliers cookies.

Flood the handles with 15 second consistency yellow royal icing and let crust. Then flood the nose with medium gray 15 second consistency royal icing and let dry.

ROYAL ICING CONSISTENCIES

To decorate Handyman Tool Cookies I used 7 different colors. I used white, yellow (lemon yellow mixed with little bit of orange), brown, black, light gray, medium gray and dark gray.

  • Medium Gray  : 15 second consistency, piping consistency

  • Yellow : 15 second consistency, piping consistency
