Christmas Cookies Decorated with Butter Frosting

Are you looking for last minute ideas on how to make decorated cookies for Christmas? Here is a quick tutorial using butter frosting. If you don't have time to make the frosting you can also use store bought one. I recommend using gel food colorings to color the frosting. You might have to make an extra trip to a cake decorating store or to Michaels. Don't forget to get some sanding sugars and nonpareils and some decorative sprinkles, they'll come in handy. Butter frosting is really forgiving and kids love to work with it too.

Butter Frosting Recipe

5tbl butter, melted
3 1/2 - cups powdered sugar
1tsp vanilla extract (or  use lemon, almond or combination of all 3)
5-7tbl milk
  • Using a mixer, beat butter, sugar, milk until smooth, add vanilla extract and beat until well combined.
  • Store frosting in airtight container to prevent crusting.
  • Frosting won't crust hard, it crusts on the surface.
