As long as I remember my mom always made tartar sauce from scratch, using sour cream. When I was little I used to help her grate pickle and carrots. She'd make beef brisket with homemade fries, steamed peas and carrots and then there would be the tartar sauce.
Sour Cream Tartar Sauce( 2 servings)
1/2cup light sour cream
3tbl finely chopped onion
1 large dill pickle
2 medium carrots, steamed with water and 1tsp rice or white vinegar,until tender fork
1 tsp Worcestershire sauce
1/2tsp Dijon Mustard
1 tsp lemon juice or dill pickling liquid juice
1/2 tsp honey
1tsp chopped chives(optional)
salt, pepper to season
In a medium size bowl, finely grate pickle and carrots, add sour cream and all the ingredients, stir well, season with salt and pepper. Chill for 30 minutes, covered and enjoy.
